Man… last night was rough.
We had just launched a new niche site, a few days ago, and my IT guy was installing a new support script on the server.
Suddenly, right before bedtime (about 2 am)… I noticed that the homepage of the site did not look right.
(Now, keep in mind, we’ve had 300+ new members to that site in about 48 hours… so it was growing fast)
Well… turns out that the support software installed on our server restored 70% of the site that we built to the default pages. Meaning… almost EVERYTHING that we had done to get the site up and running was GONE.
After panic set in at about 2:05 AM… I called my partner, and we started busting ass to get everything back.
We had to re-do just about everything. Emails, pages, links… the whole 9 yards… almost EVERYTHING was gone!
Ahh… “the joy of entrepreneurship”
Well, the good news (after about 4 redbulls) is that we got it back up and running today. We are still tweaking, and changing stuff, but our members are still signing up, and the money is still rolling in. (it’s not converting as well as it was… but we are working on that too..
A couple lessons to take note here.
First off… BACK YOUR STUFF UP. Because this site was so new, we didn’t have anything backed up. We had a couple of the pages saved in our html editors… but we should have had EVERYTHING backed up.
It’s really no excuse… new site or old… you NEED to back up your stuff.
Second, stuff like this happens in business ALL THE TIME. You have to be prepared, and you can’t take time to whine.
If we would have sat their, and whined about how our site was gone… we would NOT be making money today.
You see… true entrepreneurs take ACTION. We don’t sit and complain about the disasters in our business… we just get stuff done.
Because sh*t is going to happen… it’s a fact of life.
If you own your own business… you WILL have problems. What sets apart the people that make a lot of money from the people that don’t is ACTION.
So, I hope you take a couple lessons from this blog post to heart.
It was a LONG night, but you know… I wouldn’t trade this for the world.
I love my business, and I love the crazy hours sometime.
I could NEVER go back to a 9 - 5… absolutely NEVER. The internet has brought so much into my life, and the business is so much more rewarding (financially and emotionally) than any JOB could ever be.
I encourage anyone that is trying to start a business online to KEEP AT IT. Sometimes “sh*t happens” in your business, but you just have to go with it, and roll with the punches.
If it were too easy… everybody would do this…
Well, I hope you enjoyed the post… I’m going to go take a nap now… |-)
p.s. Thanks Bram for the help last night … You are the man!
